EILEEN HEWSON has travelled throughout the north-east Indian state of Assam recording the memorial inscriptions found in isolated graveyards on tea estates, churches hospitals, and other places. Her surveys are published here.
The contents of this E book were previously published under the titles of Assam & North-East India Christian Cemeteries and Monuments 1793-2003 and Darjeeling & the Dooars Christian Cemeteries and Monuments 1842-1995.
This E-book is a collection of 2727 graves which have had money donated for their upkeep. The details include the names of the deceased, the graveyards/cemeteries, and the amounts in Indian rupees and dates of endowments throughout British Northern India.
The main burial ground in Leh was the European Cemetery, then part of the British Resident’s garden. The Moravians had their own cemetery a little way out of the town and later some land was acquired for another at Khalsi on the Leh-Srinigar road.
